Sad. Again I wonder why we cannot repurpose our old school buildings if not remodel for today's needs. So many just seem to sit there off the tax rolls and being demolished by neglect. (Sorry for the rant, but this is a particular sadness of mine.)

I know that you probably know the answer to your question. There ia a 1 word reason. Money. These old buildings cost a large fortune to repurpose.

Here's a good example and this is only a house not a school:

It is a terrible waste but given the cost of properly and safely removing the asbestos that was used as both blown in insulation and to wrap heating pipes and ducts it is often just too costly to either repurpose the buildings or to tear them down.

It's not only asbestos. All these buildings are full of lead paint. Also probably vermin as well. Can't blow them up. All kinds of regs. Municipal, Epa, etc. Many millions just to remove all the contaminants. Up grading plumbing (lead piping) Electrical, Structural, The list is endless even before renovation can begin.

A door under an arch? Glad you told me the story, the photo does not. You are offered an opportunity to photography an empty building. That building has millions of stories too tell. If you won't do it, who will?

I would gladly have gone in but I could not. This bldg. is now private property. Not that that would normally stop me but they were there.

Funny that the hazards you listed were what a lot of old fogeys grew up with. And if they did all the harm advertised, then how were the old fogey generation able to accomplish what we did. Look around at the achievement of that old fogey generation and try to point out the achievements of the newer generations have made without piggybacking off of the people who lived with lead paint, lead pipes and asbestos. I will get off of my soapbox now.

The generations of today are proving they can not cope with adversity. Look at the over-reactions to the incidents of today. They want everything prevented so they do not have to accept adversity. Nice way of life, if you can trust the trolls who promise it.
