I saw the canon 6d with the 24-105 l lens for 1900, I currently have 7d with several L lenses full frame, I also have a Nikon d600 with several fx lenses, anyone think it's worth upgrading to the 6d, I do sports and portrait and landscape, with occasional event shooting, deal seems too good to pass up, esp since I have the lens and could sell the kit lens for a lot more than the dif between body and lens kit
Thanks

The 6D will bring your image quality on the Canon side to the same level as the Nikon. I wouldn't overestimate the resale value on the lens. I'd also avoid underestimating the limitations of the reduced AF system in the 6D as compared to the 7D (sports).

FK, the 6d won't do sports. It's designed as a travel/landscape camera and will excell in those situations, and its built-in periferals lend it to that with geo-tagging and wifi transfer. It focuses in very low light. I would suggest you wait for the new 7dll and get rid of ALL the other cameras. Just a suggestion. ;-)

If you have the Nikon D600, getting the Canon 6D accomplishes nothing.

Yes, but many do just that. They keep the 24-105 and sell the camera just slightly discounted and they end up money ahead and with a nice lens for very cheap!! ;-)

I purchased a 7D three years ago and enjoyed learning to use it; however, I decided to invest in a full frame so I bought the 6D. I love my 6D and am currently trying to decide whether or not to sell my 7D or keep it as a backup. Both great cameras...no complaints from me.

I'm in the same boat with the 7D and 6D. I actually bought the 6D as a back up, and I love both cameras. Being a wedding photographer I use both cameras so I don't have to keep swapping lenses.

Hi George. Thanks for the reply. I was just visiting my brother in Phoenix recently and my trusty 6D took some great photos of your beautiful state. We visited Sedona and Jerome. Since I live where winter has been never ending, I really appreciate a break from the cold!

Fkaufman, First, don't beleive SharpShooter, It's only his opinion, Besides He's a Nikon man, nothing wrong with that, " I have two Nikons one since 1974, great cameras. I have a Canon 6D also and beleive me, it's the best camera I ever owned and I had dozens of cameras over my lifetime.

I saw a lot of reviews on the Canon 24-105mm F/4L lens and many reviews were not so good. Corner focus and distortion were the big problems. I opted to buy the 24-70 F4L and all the reviews were great, sharp as a tack and has Macro focus but not 1 to1.

The 6D compared very well With the 5D mark III and has some additions that the Mark III don't. The 6D also has very low noise at very high ISO.

As far as sport or wildlife shooting goes, anything over 3 frames is great. I look at it this way. The more shots you take the faster you wear out the shutter. years ago we didn't have rapid frame shooting but depended on skill, unless we had a Nikon and had a rapid fire accessory that cost about 400 bucks extra. Then we could be a little more reckless in our shooting skill.

I purchased a refurbished Canon 24-70mm F4L for 1302.99 shipping included from Amazon. I realize that's a lot more then the 24-105 but it's a much better lens and has Image Stabelizer.

Even though it hasen't as much reach. The 24-70 new cost about $1500 00. I usually do my shopping a B&H or Adorma but they didn't have any refurbished at the time .

Whatever you decide, good luck. use your head and read many reviews or owners of the 6D on sites like Fred Miranda and owner reviews at B&H Adorama and other sites.

I still think the 24-105 is a great carry around lens and it does have IS, like the 24-70. Put the 6d and 24-105 together and you have a great combination for just about any situation.

The 7D is a great camera, in it's price range the user controls on the camera are the most programmable. If is a fantastic camera for shooting sports the caveat is that in low lighted situations, where you must use ISO 5000, sports or not you can see noise creep into to photos. Depending on which sports you shoot the frame rate on the 7D is great. Football I think requires a higher frame rate because the plays and the tempo of the game moves more quickly than baseball. The rumored 7D Mark ii or a newer updated version of the 7D could be released by Canon in a few weeks.
If you decide to move up to a full frame and be able to the Canon lenses the 6D is a great choice for the price. It's does not have the sturdy build with as the 7D. Another plus is that the the 7D and the 6D use the same batteries. So your choice will not involve purchasing new batteries and another battery charger

To your point on the batteries. They are compatible, with one caveat. On the 6D you must use Canon batteries otherwise you don't get a read out on the LCD screen as to battery usage. Otherwise I love both bodies.

Well I purchased the 6D for it's outstanding low light capabilities, I'm interested in low light photography and this camera shines most...though I hasn't tried it myself this camera will gather more light in low light than most (including the 5D mark 111). See the following

http://petapixel.com/2012/12/13/canon-6d-and-5dmk3-noise-comparison-for-high-iso-long-exposures/#eezbZG7PFOQCb6EJ.99

http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/evaluation-canon-6d/

I was not able to get a link for this but Terrance summarize the 6D as "A New High-Sensitivity, Low-Noise Camera for Astronomy. Our tests of the Canon full-frame 6D digital SLR camera reveal astonishing astronomical capabilities using ISO 6400 and higher. Terence Dickinson"

I think this issue of that astronomy magazine is now not available but it is a good read which give me a nice fuzzy warm feeling for owing this camera. Terence figured that other camera manufactures will be following canon's example.

Just imagine what this camera could due in twilight with a lens fast lens like the new sigma 50mm f1.4 art lens.

The biggest question, just how limiting is the AF system when it comes to action shots? Will it, for instance, shoot kids running in the yard, the dog jumping in the air, a bird in flight? Curious if anyone has any "action" shots with the 6D.
