Probably a dumb question, but here goes

For example a recent post which would you choose was posted/dated 15:29hrs, 8th of March.

I get an email from UHH at 4:12 AM 9 March, that states "Here is the list of latest photography topics
on the Ugly Hedgehog Photography Forum as of March 9, 2014. so this is the first time I see which would you choose yet there are already 3 pages of responses..

just wondering how that happens how are people viewing which would you choose almost a day before I see it in my inbox

I just check the site each day. I review those sections that interest me a couple of times a day. I pay no attention to the email that I receive every day from UHH.

What you are seeing in your in box is computer generated list of all the topic for that day at around 4:00am to 5:00 am central time. You posted your picture at about 3:31 pm the day before and as soon as you posted it every one starts looking at it and commenting.

UHH has worldwide membership and the emails go out at different times. I asked admin if topics chosen for the daily digest are random. They said "more or less."

I stopped getting the digest and browse only "newest topics" and also have a buddy list so I don't miss some members among the hundreds that are posted every day :)

Your own "Newest topics" are made up of only the forums you actively subscribe to. To subscribe or unsubscribe, click into "all sections" 2/3 way down the home page.

If I initiate a topic at 8:00am, it'll be on the site immediately but you won't get notification of it until 4:30am CST the next morning. Other Hogs, who are checking latest photography topics all the time will see it and be able to respond to it before the computer-generated notification goes out the next morning. That's how 3 pages of script can accumulate before you even know that there's a new topic posted.

Linda, can you create a "buddy list" on the site? If so, where is that done? I also have a few people that I like to follow because of their photos and/or because of information they share. Right now I have to manually look for their posts. Would be nice to have a list of names that the site would just 'follow' for me.

It's one of the links at top of page, second row down. Just click on and there is a place for you to enter user names. Then you can go to Newest Topics and use the "buddies only" filter. Only the forums you subscribe to show up there, though.

I also turned off email notification of "watched topics" and use the link you also see at top of page. I just opted to receive email notices of PM's. I'm on the site far too much to want to be "notified" of everything else :)

The way you control emails is under "My Profile."

The times shown on topics are eastern time zone USA. You can confirm by checking what the time stamp is above your entry this morning - is it accurate to when you posted, or an hour "later?"

I guess today might be a confusing day to be doing the time zone math as some people probably forgot to set their clocks ahead for daylight savings time :)

The email is just a "digest" - a sampling of the site. There are at least 100 topics posted to Photo Gallery every day! Plus all the others in main forum and the specialty forums.

Just click on "newest topics" at top of page. (however, only the forums you're subscribed to will show up)

wow glad I ask the question..,... didn't know about Newest topics link although it was there all along....just didn't go there.. I feel like by reading that one email a day from UHH that I have already improved my skills 10 fold from what they were..... I feel as if I know what good photos look like, I just couldn't make them...now I am even posting some on face book..... may even post some here some day. thanks for the feedback...
