For all the photographers who say it's not the camera, but the person behind it, Canon says otherwise. Great photos are the result of great lenses!

Great lens or el cheapo its still gonna give ya a pos result if you don't know how to use it properly .
Look at NASCAR racing , they have the best engines , all built the same but if ya can drive it ya still get crappy results .

Maybe it's a Nikon lens though. :D

Seriously though.....a good lens will give you the "opportunity" for a great shot. It's still up to the person holding the camera.

I didn't get that impression at all from that ad. I don't think Canon is making any kind of philosophical statement, they are just trying to talk up their product. It's not a big deal.

Of course, but it does make an interesting talking point. So many things go into a great shot, but there are no guarantees, regardless of the equipment.

They sell cameras and lenses. What would anybody expect them to say? If they were in the business of renting photographers their articles and sales tactics might be a bit different. "Now this model, third from the left on the upper shelf, is great for weddings. He takes stunning photos. Even with a Nikon!" :D

Canon is trying to sell you a lens here. Of course the company's marketing department isn't going to say, "lens doesn't really matter".

The camera Frink used for that shot was (allegedly) a 1DMk4. Not that cheap, and not too shabby!

Oh come on What do you expect from an ad? Does ay marketing plan say the company makes crap products? May be you thik they would promote cell phone cameras and you don't need an L lens. If all it took is an L lens does canon say that their non L lenses don't work Maybe they plan to discontinue the entire non L series and promote only the P&S line.

I'm just going by what the ad headlines are saying. I thought it was interesting.

I'm kind of wondering if they used a Kodak Disc camera but hired a really good photographer for the shoot.

I totally blew it. I completely misunderstood the add. Canon is going out of the camera business. Since they claim it's the lens and the camera and the shooter doesn't matter they are planning to make their lenses in all camera mounts. They intend to dominate the entire lens business.By putting all other lens manufactures out of business they will imorove the bottom line. Think about it. They didn't mention the camera line at all. With the greater volume they will be able to lower the price on all L lenses. Maybe the adds for the new D4s will have white lenses.

If it's the driver and not the engine since all engines are the same, why do you suppose they don't save a few bucks and use Honda Civics?

Actually, it's going to be one-lens-fits-all. It will have a squishy rubbery mount, so you'll be able to attach it to any camera. :D
