If you had the choice between the Canon 7D or 70D wich camera would you pick and why?
Thank You.

70D. Canons DSLR offerings just do not get older than the 7D. The replacement 7D Mk2 will be released late Spring or early Summer 2014. All the credible rumors I have read about it tend to lean towards limited, if any, still improvements, but getting lots of video improvements. But only time will tell.

I would opt for the 7D over the 70D. The build on the 7D is much better.

The 70D may be newer technology but the articulating touch screen is of no interest to me.

Is that right?!?!?! That will just about move me out of the canon camp. I might still hang onto my 7D but my FF choice won't probably won't be Canon. :(

Got any gently used a7rs ? ;)

Why would a potential upgrade to the 7D cause you to stay away from choosing Canon for a FF camera?

I did and I chose the 7d. The reason is that the 7d fit my hands better. I am 6'5 and have very large hands. The 70 was just too small and the controls were to close together for me. The Nikon D7100 was on my list as well. My choice was very personal in that not every one feels comfortable with a bigger camera. My dicision was based entirely on ergonomics.

K9, you are standing on the sidelines with a white lens on your camera. I don't think you're videoing a B-Day party!
The choice should be obvious.
Get a cheap used 7d till:
1, thou can afford a 5dlll, or
2, you can get a 7dll.
If you shoot sports, get a proper sports camera. If you ARE shooting video, get the 70. ;-)

K9moe: If you want to add some welcome heft to a camera, try a power winder / booster. I routinely add them to all my new Canons, and you get a much better cold-weather battery capacity in the bargain.

I picked the 70D & really like this camera. As far as the articulating screen. This is a nice feature. Was taking waterfall pictures with my tripod low to the ground so it was nice to focus the camera in live view with out getting on my hands & knees. Also has a touch screen. You can focus a point in the photo by touching that point on the screen & it will focus on that point. It also nice to view your pics by just swiping the touch screen. Has more focus points with dual phase detection. The 7d is a great camera but it is old technology. The 7d maybe slightly more rugged but is heavier. The 70D is also weather sealed. Some waterfall pics with a 70D 15-85mm lens & 9 stop ND filter.

the best sensor Canon offers is in the 6D. If it's possible I want better than that. Otherwise It would be a 6d.

I upgraded to the 70D from a T2i a few months ago. I deliberated between the 70D and 7D also. One of the things I looked at was comparing the 2. The 70D is 20mp vs 18mp. I didn't think the other couple of things that I was gaining with a 7D was worth the extra dollars for the older technology. I've been happy with it. Keep in mind that if you buy the 70D you may need to upgrade software. I had LR4 which doesn't support the 70D. I had to upgrade to LR5. This phantom 7D mkii has been rumored for a while. A guy work has been waiting for it for a year now. If you are taking pictures and looking to get paid I would go for the 5D mkiii. If you are just playing(with the white lens in your profile picture I guess you aren't) then get the 70D. Here's pretty good link for some differences between them. He actually compares 70D vs 7D and 5D mkiii

My 6D has the best resolution and highest ISO, without noise, of any other camera I tried. LOVE IT!!!!

when you think about it a camera model that has been as popular as the 7d for so long must be pretty good. Perhaps the reason why I paid such a good price is the impending release of the 7dll

I also looked at 6D and thought about that. I currently have several lenses that would not work on FF cameras so that was ultimately what led me to limit myself to the 70D and 7D. In hindsight, it probably shouldn't have mattered anyways as I kept my T2i and still plan on using it.
