I hope that everyone up north that deals with the snow and ice has better road crews than we have in Arkansas, especially where I live in JONESBORO! We got pounded with a severe sleet storm Sunday and until late last night there wasn't anything done to the roads. The city came by after dark last night and did what they thought was grading I guess. The road I live on had over 2 feet of frozen mess stacked up at the end of our driveways where we couldn't even get out. Luckily I was off work today. I called the street department to report this and the lady said they didn't do driveways. Mind you my road was the only one in the area that was done this way. When I told her how sorry they were she kindly hung up on me. I tried to call the mayors office and they were all still closed. Imagine that! It took me and my grandson and hour and a half to break up the frozen clumps and dig out the mail box for the mail carrier. Sorry sorry work! Ain't it good to see your tax dollars at work!
I lived 'up north' for 60 years.
When the streets were plowed, driveways were of NO consideration.
I strongly recommend that you not move to New England or New York!!
Plows in New Hampshire put up to 4 feet in front of your driveway. Get out while it's soft, no matter what the time.

lol brings back some memories of when I lived in the north....the street I lived on only had houses on one side of the street and woods on the other....guess which way they plowed....

It is the same every where. The county I live in is not very big but they still have 5000 miles of road that must be plowed nearly every morning before the school bus runs.
No way they could clean every drive out that is your responsibility.
The county plow goes by here every morning about 6am I wait till after he goes by before I clean my drive that way I only need to do it once per day.
Most of what they drive on in Arkansas I would not call a road more like a cow path.
Spring is coming!
So are the tornadoes!
I guess it's nice I don't have to deal with it every day.

Jeanbug... .I really feel sorry for you....... Join the crowd in Illinois who have put up with that for the last 30 years at least (that is more or less when I returned to Illinois This year they tore out a large hole in the pavement in the immediate center of my Driveway.... IT will not be fixed by the state and neither they or the county or the city people "Do Driveways"
Ain't it fun..

Blackbart... Why should it be my responsibility to clean up snow that the state/county/city has thrown at the entrance to my driveway.... The State/county/city own MY PROPERTY for 2' from the edge of the road Not counting the 3.5' of the sidewalk... I AM NOT ALLOWED to do anything with that part of MY PROPERTY..... The part of my driveway has been altered by the states re-paving operations until now one must almost stop and mount the large up ramp from the street to my driveway proper or chance dragging off oil pan and/or exaust parts.... They will let me fix it... FOR filling out 7 different forms and paying approximately 5 thousand dollars before the first moment of repair is achieved...
You either have not been in Arkansas or just want to make fun of someone.... Arkansas has some of the most beautiful roads in the eastern USA.... Take your lawn chair and sit in any convenient place along Route 5, or 7 or 23. And watch how many Motorcycles go past you.... GREAT ROADS..

I'm still here. It still happens. Grrrr!
I think the plow drivers do it for fun.
