The D50 was a newer "step down" little brother to the D70 and D70s. The D5000 was a leter edition camera, bigger sensor, video, better AF, etc. But it has the disadvantage of being unable to use the full line of Nikon mount AF lenses. I requires the AF S lenses to AF. Same AF system as the D40, D60, D3000, D3100 and D5100.
Hope this helps.

I use the D70 and I am very happy with it. Sharp pictures and was able to purchase it last year at reasonable price

The D70s has better white balance and a few other upgrades from the D50, I have a d50 and love the pictures it takes but not real good in low light and ISO range is small. A good starter camera unless you are shooting in dark areas such as heavy woods or indoors without a flash. The d70s is a better option in my opinion. I now shoot with a D300 and it is not a good option for a begginer, hard to get used to and confusing options in the menus. I hope this helped.

I own the D5000 and I LOVE it! Although I'd love the D3x even more I can't afford that upgrade right now. I am very satisfied wth my baby :-)

I own two D70's and love them. Bought both off of ebay several years ago. I wanted a D-70s for the second one, but alas they seem to be hard to find. The price on ebay seems to be running around $220-240 for most, but I have seen a few whose owners are REALLY in love with thier camera's because they are asking over $3oo!! It's only a 6 mega pixel camera, but that is plenty for your "normal" range of prints. Love mine to death!!

I've owned a D70 since they first came out, IMHO they are about the best camera for the money, I've looked at newer cameras and say to myself, why change? Also got the camera 2 days before a 2 week Alaskan trip and had no trouble learning to use camera, however I'm still learning to use.
