Hi, my partner just received a new Lexar 32gb CF Card from Amazon UK, he put it into his 7D and got a message saying it couldn't be read and to either take it out, put another one in or format it, he doesn't have another one so he formatted it, another message said it could not be formatted. Help Please, does anyone know how we can get this card to work as he is off to Iceland on Saturday.

Thank you
Anne

Buy a new Card - two cards. Unless he goes to Iceland on a regular basis, this is no time to cheap-out.

If he has a card reader, he could try to format it with the computer and then try it in the camera and see if it will format.

Is that specific type of card approved for use in the camera? The owner's manual will have a list of what can be used.

It's not write-protected, is it?

Assuming there is no damage to the contacts on the card or in the camera, you have a defective card, most likely. Put it in a computer and see if it can be read and formatted. Put a different card in your camera and see if it works. If it does then your camera is OK. Sometimes you just get a bad card. I had it happen to me once. At least you found out before leaving home. I didn't.

Thank you for your very quick replies. Will try formatting it in the computer. Will let you know if it works.

Thanks

I've been lucky for I've been using Lexar a long time. I did have one bad card one time and Lexar replaced it right away. Hopefully they will for you also.

You should also verify that its a GENUINE Lexar card also. They are widely counterfeited. Amazon is a selling site and anyone may sell on it, same as Ebay, so scam sellers and counterfeit products appear there regularly. Often these counterfeits are old 256MB or 512MB cards that have simply been re-labeled.

Hi Anne:
I have also had bad cards in the past and Lexar has been very good about replacement-- even after they have aged a couple of years--Just a note-- bad experience in removing the card to download-- broke a pin off in the camera D700-- I use a cable exclusively now-- little spend y to repair--After purchasing D800-s I use the SD slot almost all of the time-- much less risk if you intend to down load from the card itself
