Nikon's NEF raw format compatability problem

MakuaMan Loc: Waianae, Hi.

I am revisiting a question I brought up a month or two ago.I have read that other people also have had problems with their PP programs accepting NEF.I just upgraded from CorelX3 to X4 which is alot better in many ways but still won't accept NEF without displaying them all grainey at least in the Manage window. Some shots look fine in the Edit window.
Is this something Nikon has addressed and I'am not aware of or is it a problem to others also? What I have been doing is downloading to View NX and converting to TIFF and putting in a folder and then working on them in Corel but I'am wondering if I'am loosing editing latatude by using TIFF.Is there a better raw format to convert to that Corel recognizes?.
This has been very frustrating and time consuming so any known fix's will be very much appreciated.
Aloha and Happy New Year

Well, things like this are not up to Nikon/Canon to address. It is up to the software people to address the camera RAW improvements. TIFF should be fine. It is a big lossless file.

I've never had an issue with opening NEFs with Lightroom or Photoshop.

I agree with CaptainC - the problem is not Nikon's, but Corel's. NEFs are 12 or 14 bits - I've converted to 8 bit TIFF and don't see any real difference. If you're real concerned, convert them to 16 bit TIFF.

OK and thank you for the response.Although that does not help as far as the extra step in PP.I'll have to persue this with Corel and tried to in their review of X4 but it kept on rejecting my reply. It seems they don't want my opinion and I could not find a email or phone #.
I guess I won't worry about converting to TIFF until I can find a solution so that will keep me editing.
Mahalo again and Aloha

Thank you also snowbear and I always use the highest bit depth I can.I agree with you both it is Corel's to fix and on that note I will take this chance to vent.
If anyone from COREL is on this forum and reads this please respond.
I don't believe I'am the only one with this problem as I've had a PM with a Picassa user who has the same problem so it seems it's not just Corel. It just seems that software company's would notify all registered users of their products and keep up to date with updates. I can't remember recieving one update to X3 over a year of having it.
Logically there should be other Nikon Raw users with these Corel programs and should have the same problem. If not then that would lead me to believe that there is some kind of driver problem in my 1yr. old HP laptop just past warranty ofcourse.
Anyway I'll keep looking for a solution and try not to let it frustrate me as life is too short.

Aloha
