Could someone give me some advice on a their experience on a wide angle zoom lens to use with a crop sensor camera similar to the Canon 7D?

I use both a 16-35 2.8 and a 24-70 2.8 regularly on a 7D and they work just fine.
There have been times when the 16 on the crop sensor was not as wide as I would like but it's still pretty good.

I use Tamron 10-24mm and it works well at a reasonable price.

How about the Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM.

I recently bought a Tokina 12-24 mm f4 based on positive comments on this forum. It's amazing! I use it on a 7D. Would suggest you do a search on UHH. You'll like it.

It's incredibly sharp and has become my favorite lens.

Sorry, was not complete in my last post.

The reason I mention the Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM is that on a cropped sensor it is effectively a 12-25 while the 10-24s are 16-38 which might not be the wide angle you are looking for.

I use a Canon 10-22 on both a 60D and 50D, it is very sharp and has low barrel distortion as compared to other's in its class. It is hard to beat that lens, if I were to consider something else it would be the Tokina 11-16 or the Sigma 8-16, but I have a Canon 15-85 for my primary walk around so those lenses only compliment my already wide walk around.

The image below was shot at 10mm, the camera was right in front of the dog's face.

I have the Tokina 11-16 wide angle lens for my Canon T3i camera and I love it.

I also have this lens, & yes, it is incredibly sharp & well made. You don't have to rob a bank, either. :-) :-)

The Sigma 10-20 f3.5; Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6; Tokina 11-16; Tokina 12-24

You can't go wrong with any of these at some decent prices to boot!

I have the Canon 16-35mm F2.8. On a cropped frame camera, like the 7D it does not frame as tightly as it does on full frame, but is still very good for group shots of people indoors where there is little room, for indoor real estate photography, and for framing all of a large building without having to move miles away. There may be third party lenses that give tighter framing, but the performance of this Canon lens is unbeatable. It is a terrific lens.
