Heres a guy that lived more than two thousand years ago, never travelled anywhere but wandered around the country side in a very small region somewhere in the Middle East. He had a small band of friends and a few "parlour tricks" some would say.

He made some outlandish statements that bordered on the insane like, "eat my flesh and drink my blood", "I am God" and "believe in me or exist in torment forever" to mention a few.

And for some reason, he pissed off the local government to such an extent that they made up some charges in a kangaroo court and publicly executed him in the most vile, excruciating way possible. And that should have been the end of it, especially when they chased down some of his followers and started killing them too.

You would expect, at best he would end up a foot note in the back pages of an annal somewhere, but no.

For some strange reason every significant document (and I mean "every" ) on this earth, is authenticated with his number. Even the software update on your camera. In other words the whole world manages time around this man.

This is not an opinion folks, this is a fact. Are you kidding me?

His birthday is celebrated world wide, his death and supposed resurrection is celebrated world wide. One third of the worlds population claim to believe in him. Why?

Countless books and songs written about him, numerous movies (a new one in the theatres as we speak). He's depicted in art, buildings are built with his name on them, first names and surnames are named after him, many will even symbolize the filthy, disgusting manner in which he died and adorn themselves with it and call it jewelry.

The one book that documents his life more than any other (referred by some as a fairy tale or just plain nonsense) eclipses the sales of any other book, ever, in the history of mankind… ever!!

Even though many powerful and influential people have tried to eradicate the world of him, his book and his followers by burning, torturing and murdering. His following continues to grow. Huh? Imagine that.

Why is it that when people curse, they use his name? He was the subject of a fairy tale right? An urban legend at best. He was banging nails for a living two thousand years ago for Pete's sake. What's the big deal with his name? When have you ever heard someone curse using Buddhas name or mahatma?

People, this makes no sense. This is like something from the twilight zone.

I would invite some of the more scholarly ones on this site to explain this to the rest of us.

The Jews seek for a sign, the Gentiles seek for knowledge, the faithful by simple God given faith, believe. For without this kind of faith, it is impossible to believe or understand anything of!, or about God.

Small minds produce the feeblest of intentions. Your unbelief is to your detriment. Debate this with your Muslim and atheist friends - but, debate isn't in God's plan:

John 3:18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,

1 John 4:15-16 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in Him.

Time is short; disbelieve at your peril John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

His Love is unashamed and unwaivering.

Your conundrum is not unique, LarJgrip, and I hope you don't think it is.

In essence Christianity does say, if you don’t believe you will die. But this is not at the hand of men, but by the Sword of God. Which is his everlasting word, revealed in his Son Jesus.

John -
3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I think that LarJgrip did not intend for his post be a conundrum but intended to ask the reader to think. As a Christian we already have the answer. Jesus knew that there would be those who would not believe because they want proof but for those who don't ask for proof but believe by faith will receive the promise.

More potential to make money and gain power in a belief system than there is in any other non belief system. Where else can you sell something that isn't there and has no use nor rationale. Christianity is but one of a whole bunch of power playing money making belief systems. Even ET is up there making cash.

If there is a loving god up there he certainly aint watching what is being done in his name.....nor does he care much about life's little disasters....
