Replacing stolen gear

I'm starting to replace my stolen gear. (all Canon) Obviously some of it won't get replaced. One of my favorite lenses for taking photos of people events (of which I do very little) was my Canon 28-80. For some reason the only place I seem to find this lens is in kits. Isn't it available outside of a kit? I couldn't even find it on KEH. I'm replacing my 28-135, which is probably my very favorite lens, and I'm waiting to find a used 28-300. Does anyone have one of those they want to get rid of?

Sorry to hear about your gear getting stolen. Was it in your car?

The 28-80 has been discontinued for some time now. About the only place you can get one is used on eBay now. You might consider a used 24-70mm f/2.8 They are really nice lenses. Don't buy the mark II. It is quite expensive. You should be about to pick up the older model for about $1200 or so.

Sorry you have to start over.

I understand a little lens overlap. But three lenses, all covering a common range, seems unusual. That certainly happens as we build up gear over time, but since you have the opportunity to create a cohesive set at once, it doesn't seem necessary.

If you mean did I notify Canon of the burglary, yes I did and they frankly said they didn't care. Well, they didn't say that, but they did say they didn't keep that sort of information and good luck replacing my cameras.

Yes I know there's an overlap, but I have my reasons. The 28-135 leaves a dark ring at the bottom when I try to use the flash. That's why I like the 28-80 for doing people. The 28-135 is for landscapes. The 28-300 is for shooting at the racetrack.

Hadn't thought about it until now, but with a crop camera, probably the 24-70 would work. I'll look at it more closely. Thanks.

no there not much canon do.
but if you did register the serial numbers on canon website. there is program out that will search internet for pictures using that camera, that can help locate it, they just have to post a picture somewhere on internet.

I know I have the 28-135 IS and I think I have a 28-80 around somewhere. If you haven't found them already let me know and I'll dig through my stash.
