Should I buy a Nikon Df to compliment my 800E? My wife has blessed the purchase. What do you Nikon Df shooters say?

I don't have a Df but I do have a wife, are you really asking for advice or are you bragging that you have a wife that is ok with your camera obsession.

Not bragging, although maybe I should. Really want to know if Df users are happy with the camera. Most will obviously say yes, but will anyone point out shortcomings? I have read the reviews.

I have a D800e - please clue me in on how a Df compliments a D800e. I've been thinking of replacing my D80 with a D7100 but maybe you'll convince me otherwise. (btw all my lenses are full frame)

I don't understand what the Df does for you, other than look like a hipster--YouTube review (link). You already have a backup for your D800.

I would spend the $3k on whatever else is missing in your setup, like a sweet lens you don't already have. Or go on a cool photo trip. Unless you can find a rig which lets you set up two cameras to take a picture at the same time. :-)

'Xactly!
The Df looks quite similar to the Nikkormat FT-N that I purchased in 1976 as a back-up to my Nikon F2. I do not see the appeal.

Other than slightly better low light performance- and the 800e is no slouch anyway- I don't see an advantage.

D610 stacks up better I think, if you need a 2nd body. Otherwise I'd go with the other options suggested, a good lens or a nice trip.

What is wrong getting another D-800e to compliment the D-800e?

love the df. you get a lot of the guts of a d4 at half the price. real dials for iso shutter speed and exposure comp, great low light high iso no noise, ken Rockwell loves the df, and not only can you use Nikon manual focus ai lenses you can use non ai. plus you look real cool and will get a lot of people stopping you and asking questions about the df.

PopPhoto review (link) "Bottom Line": "If you don’t have old glass, you may be better served by the D610."

So you should instead step up to the D610... Er, step down? ;-)

I have a Nikon D800 and needed another body so I rented a D600. (this was before the 610) I really disliked the way it handled - The camera kept getting in the way of shooting because the buttons were in different places than I was used to. That is the biggest reason I rarely use the D7000. Not a big deal with static subjects, but some of the things I shoot fall just short of sporting events and I don't have the patience or time to shift gears. I just bought another D800.
