if you want proof just contact the ai folks at stanford and mit. plastic lenses have way more problems than the old metal ones. having been involved in lens repair for about 25 years, i can certainly attest to that!

Really? Let's see if Roger Cicala of lensrentals.com agrees with you.

"If you’ve read one of these posts on the internet lately, you’ve learned all kinds of things, none of which are true.... Lenses with plastic mounts break more frequently than lenses with metal mounts (Nothing suggests this)."

"I looked at the Lensrentals’ reliability data for the last several years (several thousand repairs), and there’s no higher failure rate with plastic mount lenses. They have, if anything, a bit lower failure rate"

There you go. If your claims about plastic lenses are any indication of the accuracy of your comments, then I'm doubting the folks at MIT will tell me that jpgs soon won't be readable.

Another gem from Roger:
"By my latest count, during the last two weeks 7,216 internet experts have claimed it is an absolute fact that plastic internal mounts are a new, cheap, poor quality substitute for internal metal mounts. The pictures above suggest otherwise."

7,217 now! Ha!

Why is it film versus digital? Does this make any more sense than the argument that pits acrylic versus oil paint? The medium is photography, there are many ways to create images. Film has its strengths and weaknesses as does digital. Film can do things that digital simply can't, look at the images created by Sarah Moon and try to replicate that in digital. On the other hand, digital can do things film can, look at the images of Francis Seward and try to replicate that in film.

So rather than fuss over which is "better" let's celebrate both for what they are.
Why is it film versus digital? Does this make any ... (show quote)
