While stationed at Fort Lee, VA (15 miles south), I was ticketed twice by Colonial Beach's infamous "speed trap" police but never heard of oyster canning there. This must have been a long time ago.

yes it was about 50 yrs ago durning the best times. I lived there were was the speed trap?by the way that was a big bussness they supplied the Naval training center in the great lakes with oysters .

The trap was on Route 1 all the way through the town (believe it was 15mph and fines supported the entire city government including four or five patrolmen in squad cars). This was to patrol one mile stretch of highway. They especially loved soldiers who always drove with a heavy foot.
I am sorry - I was thinking about the town of Colonial Heights. I left Fort Lee in 1950 and my memory gtows dim.

I think you have the wrong town Colonial beach Va. is 99 mile from Fort Lee Va. About 1.75 hrs away all by car
