This is a fine "how do you do." I've lost my tripod. Just how does one go about losing ones tripod? It is either somewhere between Michigan and Kitty Hawk, or else it is buried under a pile in my house. If I only knew which. If it is somewhere between here and Kitty Hawk, I may find it, but if it's in the house, it's a goner.

Hmmmmm.

lol. That's a daily event with me. I lost a car in Honolulu for two weeks once. I thought is was parked along the canal and it was discovered parked at International Airport after I reported it stolen. I then remembered I stopped there for a few drinks and took a taxi to town. It cost me a pile to get out.

Take a stiff shot of brandy, then sit down and retrace your steps.

Exactly! That is what I would do, (which is why I can't find my stuff in the first place). We have a bedroom that could make its own reality tv show.

My wife says it doesn't matter what I forget as long as I always remember to come home. That part I've got covered. Anything else is a crapshoot.

Back in my younger days...late 60s .... but just starting to realize that my short-term whaddayacallit was not what it once was exactly the same thing happened to me. Got back home and a few days later realized that my tripod was somewhere between Central Park ....THE Central Park, and Estelline, South Dakota ( There's an Estelline in Texas, or I'd have just said THE Estelline). No idea where I'd left it. My wife said, just go through your pictures and you'll remember the last one you shot on the tripod! She was right. My tripod was in a rest stop parking area along I-90 in Indiana. Thought it was a gonner. Next day I got a call from a kind soul who saw me drive off without it. A few days later he remembered he had it in his car and gave me a call thanks to my business card taped to an upper leg segment. It arrived by UPS about a week later, none-the-worse-for-wear!
Several good lessons here!

That's why I have 3 pairs of glasses - one for computer work, one for reading, and one to find the other two.

Exact same thing happened to me back in my late 60s when the first hints of failing short-term whatddayacallit had started to appear. A few days afterour return from a trip. I realized my new Benro Carbon fiber tripod was somewhere between THE Central Park and Estelline, South Dakota. There is an Estelline in Texas, or I would have typed "THE Estelline". My wife said you just need to go through ALL your pictures and you'll remember the last one shot on the tripod. She was absolutely right. My tripod was in a wooded park-like area of a rest stop along I-90 in Eastern Minnesota. Had to be a gonner!
But the next day I got a call from a pleasant gentleman who had seen me drive off without my tripod,, saw it had my business card taped to an upper leg segment, and put it in his trunk. Took him a few days to remember the tripod in the trunk, but he gave me a call and it arrived by UPS several days later.
Several good lessons here.

That would make it more likely that I wouldn't remember where it is.

Here's what I try to do: Put stuff in the same spot...my keys, work ID/card key, wallet, thumb drives with work projects.... If I deviate from this plan, I spend a lot of time searching the same damn locations multiple times.

;)

Ha! I get to the top of the steps and wonder why I came upstairs in the first place. ;)

I once searched all over the house for my computer glasses. Until my wife pointed out that I was wearing them.

Try looking between the cushions of the sofa. When I lose my car keys or the TV remote, nine times out of ten that is where I'll find them!

Or sit down and have another stiff shot of brandy.
