I'm not a real big advocate for carrying a weapon but lately I've been thinking about purchasing a handgun to to keep with me while out shooting (pardon the pun). I was wondering, do any of you carry such a weapon and, if so, have you felt more secure? I know the world has gotten a little crazy and I wish we didn't have to arm ourselves - I'm not sure what to do.

Sure I carry when out shooting. A lot of the time, I find myself out very early in the morning or very late at night and that is when the "boogies" are out.

If you were not absolutely correct when you pull the trigger your life could be ruined. Witness the two recent cases in Florida.

THAT is crazy. Either you 'carry' all the time or you do not. Why not a machine gun since we are at it?

Only case I would 'carry' is if I go onto an area where the wild life is.. keen to have me as lunch. Never had that so never 'carried' anything but when I was in the Army.

Sadly, I was pretty sure the question would be about property insurance.

I typically carry everywhere its allowed. Two things you need to know:

1st you will want something light that is not a burden to carry

2nd you really must know your weapon well. Be completely comfortable with its handling, trigger pull, safety, and its complete operation. If you are completely at one with the weapon, you won't hurt yourself or others accidentally.

And practice, practice, practice. The more often you practice the more comfortable you will become with your weapon. My .02 for the day.

Good to see other CC's. I do care as to area i am in. When I travel the back country and trails I diffidently carry. [sub 9mm sig] Just having it will gives you confidence specifically when you meet a person in the back country or on the trail. You never know when the next "crazy" will want your gear.
Also depending on where you are their are 4 legged critters out there that humans are their next meal. Ron

I can understand your concern, but during 25 yrs as a cross country trucker there are few places in the country I haven't been to and often spent the night asleep in my truck at. From the Brooklyn piers to East Los Angeles. Was nervous more then once but never really felt the need for a gun so I don't plan to change that. I always found that the proper use of what you have between your ears was the best defense.
