B&H vs. Adorama

I work in Manhattan and I'm within walking distance of both B&H and Adorama. While Adorama is like your local supermarket, B&H is like a warehouse shopping facility. I generally never go to either because I quickly succumb to the 'kid in a candy store' mentality and my wallet just can't take it. But I was wondering what others thought of the shopping experience online. Do you think B&H or Adorama offers the better deals when it comes to pricing and stock? I've bought online from both, but I just thought I'd check in and see what others think about the two, or if there's another photo store that's even better. (I'm an Amazon Prime member, so I do a lot of shopping on there, too.)

Thanks for your input!

Watching their ads, I see no difference between the two in the long run.

I have ordered from both and had had no major problems with either. I tend to order from Unique Photo. Just a comfort thing.

I think the B&H website is easier to browse, but that may be because I've used it more.

I use them both, but I tend to go with Adorama, unless B & H offers a good deal on something that I want at the moment.

Most of my online purchases have been with B&H. I have found them to be very responsive. I was given the chore of choosing a digital projector for our camera club. I sent a note to B&H asking for suggestions, the main requirement being maximum resolution since we use the projector for photo contests and show and tell presentation. They responded with a number of suggestions that covered a wide price range and I was able to choose one that has suited the club just fine.

Recently I bought a camera body from them and had kept the old one. I decided later to sell the old body and sent notes off to B&H and to Adorama. B&H responded immediately with an offer subject to their examination of the body. I sent the body to them. A few days later someone from Adorama phoned me about a price. B&H responded when they received the camera body and actually increased the offer, saying that a check was in the mail.

I've heard very good things about Adorama but I am really impressed with the folks at B&H

To visit B&H hands down, I usually check prices between the two. On many items one may be a little higher than the other. If the difference is minor I will go with B&H simply because I have always had a great experience with them. From a practical standpoint both have an excellent reputation so you can't go wrong with either. ;)

I've bought from both over the years, and have had only good experiences with each of them. I think their prices are very competitive with each other, and I've never gotten the bait and switch feelings about them like you may get with other online vendors. Their salespeople are knowledgeable and helpful and they both would rank 5 stars from me.

I come to NYC once a year and Last Thanksgiving I visited the B&H store so I can understand your shopping fear.I buy online from B&H as I find their web site easier to manipulate.Their service was great. I have been to the Adorama site several times and I hear good things about them on UHH. It's nice to have good choices.

I have ordered from Adorama, probably because of the Avi Haef has taken care of my questions and needs.

I've shopped Adorama and B&H for a long time and also am a member of Amazon prime. I've found, when looking for a particular item, to check all 3 as sometimes one will offer a special price or rebate on an item that is not available on the other 2....I recently bought a Canon lens on Adorama for $319 when the other sites had it for $499....big difference. Sometimes the prices will be the same, but one offers free shipping and the others don't....I say always shop around for a bargain.

I've bought many times over the years from both, and without any issues. B&H tends to be more responsive though and a little more thorough. However, Adorama often has a more current selection of what I want and at basically at the same price. So, what I'm saying is that I can depend on either, being guided only by my current 'needs' and availability.

Both are great...as is Amazon prime. Price compare between the 3.

Thank you all for your input! I definitely will check out Unique photo, too. I just got a new SONY NEX-7 and will be needing a lot of bells and whistles for it since I unfortunately unloaded a lot of my stuff when digitals came on the scene.

Great advice from all of you -
