35 years ago, I first ventured into serious photography buying the Pentax K2 SLR. My interest recently rekindled, I bought the Sony a55 and had just sold it. I often hear this, "Pros shoot only with Nikon and Canon". Here in Singapore, I see most pros shoot with the 6D or the 5D III. I had thought that going with the pros' choice, I can't be far wrong but the RX100 III changed my perception. Hope to get a good deal at the coming IT Show on Thursday. Thanks for your input.
Michael, I shoot with a Canon. Why? Let me give some of the reasons. First, every camera made today will do what I want to do, but I won't shoot anything else, including Nikon. So, again, why?
Example, I checked Craig's List last night, looking for a used 5d mkll. There were 15 of them. I can get pretty much any Canon lens made, used, in a matters of hours. There are 4 factory centers in the US alone. I could have any question about a Canon, ask here, and have fifty people using my camera that will reply in one day! I can call Canon and talk to a tech right now. Is the camera better? Who cares! It's good enough. It's all the periferals that matter to me. If I want a new Tamron 150-600 for the weekend, I can get it. For a Sony, they will probably never make it. Even for Nikon, who knows when it will be available. there are as many aftermarket products made for a Canon as there are Apple Apps! And I won't even mention the real reason I shoot a Canon.
Michael, you can get any camera you want and it will be fine. If you gotta be different, it's OK, be different. But small companies, are just that, small companies making great products. Are the products better? No. Are the companies smaller? Yes. And some of their camera divisions are struggling to keep up with Canon. I hope they all make it ;-)

PS, I too have used a Pentax, but that was a long time ago, in a land, far, far away!
