Can We Get It Right in The Camera?

Here is a series of tests and results done by Mark Wallace, AdoramaTV, that answers the question, "can we get it right in the camera?":

Here is his first comment on the subject:

Here is the testing and results:

I will likely not monitor this thread or attempt to moderate the comments. The videos tell it all as far as I am concerned and I cannot add anything useful to it. Please pay close attention and you will note that he states that he uses a Nikon D3 for these tests because it has the broadest dynamic range of all current camera models as of the time these tests were done.

I found that really interesting and very helpful. Until I started shooting in RAW I always tried to get it as right as possible in camera but now I shoot in RAW and develop in Lightroom with much more pleasing results.

I found it to be enlightening also. If nothing else, this video points us in the direction of what needs to be adjusted in post processing, no small matter. It can also help us determine what we need to compromise in getting it as good as we can in the camera. Indeed, a useful video.

Sidney, I'm confused. Your profile states that you are in London and yet the only Ocala I can locate is in Florida. So, where are you?

First of all an apology to gessman, I didn't mean to hijack your thread so I'm moving off now.

Sidney, I've found a couple of shots I took around Piccadilly and you'll find them here:http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-188739-1.html, hope you like them. Cheers, Bob

Copy and paste the url into your browser and it should work for you. In future, it might be nice if you would send a private message or something a little less distracting to a thread not related to your specific interests. :-)

I just want add that this subject keeps coming up in the main photography section and maybe these links should be included in the FAQ section until cameras become capable of covering the full dynamic range from pure white to pure black.

In my haste to comment earlier today I seem to have left a word out, the word "to," as in "I just want to add that this subject keeps coming up..." Please pardon me if that caused any inconvenience.
