I can say this about Scott Kelby, Adobe uses him as a reference to service their product sometimes, he must be doing something right. If you are near one of his seminars "SHOOT LIKE A PRO" I recommend going to see him    , You will also get a discount on the said books too. Also B&H was there at the seminar I went to yesterday.

Lightroom 5
Very comprehensive - Outstanding.
Recommend getting Kindle version and use side by side on screen.

I have the LR 4 version and refer to it often, even though I've upgraded to 5.

Personally I always read technical books that ways, front to back. Manuals are a different matter. I look up what I need. But these instruction books are not manuals. In a well written instruction book each new chapter builds on and requires understanding of what came before. While you can always jump around if you wish, I prefer the logical transition from section to section.

Anyone have any experience and can comment on Scott Kelby's book on Light Room 5?

I am in the middle of my first read-through. Next, I will dig into it while at the computer, so I can try out some of his ideas. I like it, and it has shown me many things that I had not dreamed of doing in LR.

Like all modern techie books, it is not cheap, but I think this one is well worth the money.

I have several of Scott's books, including the LR5 book. They are all very good and written in a classic Scott tone. Very informative and entertaining. His writing style is very much like his in person seminar style. I would say a beginner with the program would find them as useful as the more advanced user. I refer to them frequently.

The are a number of ebooks from Photshelter and a could of others that are quite good and inexpensive but sometimes the ebook is a little more difficult to use. The spiral binding at Staples would certainly be something to consider.

Yes these books are perfect for first time LR users. However. although Lightroom is far easier to learn and understand than Photoshop, it will still take time and effort to learn how to use it properly. It is a professional level program that many pros use as a front end to Photoshop. Its not a simple to use entry level program with automated and guided features intended for post processing beginners.

Thank you for the reply.
At least there is a lot of free how-to instructions and videos available on the web that least give you some good starting points.

I have used Scott Kelby's book in the past but when I upgraded to LR5 I thought I would try The Missing FAQby Victoria Banton. I use it more as a reference book then anything else and find it quite useful. It covers a lot more that Kelby's books.

Any photography book from Scott Kelby is a 10 points ++

I do the same thing with camera instruction books. The originals are a pain. I used the PDF and had Staples print it.
The last one I did (Canon 5 d 11) placed the word "Copy" on all the pages. I have no idea why. If I had noticed it in the store I would have complained.
I am a big fan of comb binding. I don't want to fight with an instruction book.
