I recently was given a couple of PK mount macro lenses and was going to get an adapter to see if I can do anything with them with my D5100. I'm looking at adapters. Some with a 'corrective lens' & others without. Can someone tell me why a corrective lens might be needed and if they are worth the additional cost. (still relatively inexpensive)

Did some research and found that the corrective lens is for focus to infinity... Not really necessary for close up macro work.... & they put an additional element in which could affect the image
The corrective lenses mean porr quility most of the time. with just the adaptor they will work great. You will be able to get more than 1:1 magnifacation. Of course everything will be manual. - dave

instead of getting an adaptive adapter which may degrade image, get automatic extension tubes which will make your life easier and not bother the image..

Correct, corrective element is to focus to infinity, will degrade image quality, isn't needed for macro and costs more. Just go with the plain old milled adapter with no corrective lens, go out and shoot some macro, and enjoy....
