Macro with a point and shoot!

I just got a new SONY NEX-7, but a lot of the macro shots I have are from my LUMIX DMC-ZS25. Haven't bought a macro lens yet for the SONY so that's something to look forward to, but I really don't know much about extensions, tubes, etc. All I know is that I think getting up really close is fascinating!

Not bad for point & shoot. The first looks seriously cropped which supports your need for a dedicated macro lens. #2 has the focus behind where you want it to be, which is the eyes.

Nice work with the P&S. I've been tempted to get a Bridge camera and Raynox diopter and see what I can do with it.

NEX-7 a good camera. I keep waiting for the price to drop and I'll probably pick one up. Good thing about the NEX series is for a small investment in adapters you can shoot just about any old manual lens. Something you may want to consider when you are shopping for a macro. Lots of good manual macro lens out there for very reasonable costs.

Well I have a lot of learning to do. I'm thankful that the cameras nowadays can do some of the thinking for me! I haven't fiddled with camera lenses etc., for so long that I forgot so much of the stuff I had taught myself in the 70s and 80s. Hopefully I won't be too overwhelmed with the new SONY.

So, in other words I could go for a macro lens and us a ring adapter to step down to the 49mm of the SONY, I'm assuming. Any recommendations?

Correct, just search eBay or Amazon for NEX adapters. As for lens choices you need to decide which focal length you want first. A popular choice amongst macro photographers is 100mm.

As for recommendations, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Minolta, Yashica, Vivatar, Kino, etc. all made good macro lens in the 100mm range. Several UHH members are better versed in old glass than I am. I have bought several old lens that I'm quite happy with. Before purchasing a lens I reference the following sites:

If you find a lens you're interested in post it here. I'm sure one of our regulars will have an opinion on it.
