Mac and Macbook

Can anyone please help regarding my email system on my laptop (its a Macbook pro) as this problem is interfering so much with my photography as I have to delete everything.

Here goes, when I open my laptop I get hundreds and hundreds of junk emails in a chinese text, I have to delete by 'selecting all' otherwise I would be there forever trying to sort them.

When I open my desktop (laptop not switched on) I get the correct emails and no chinese rubbish. The minute I switch my laptop on all these emails then go to my desktop (Mac) as well. Can anyone out there explain what I have to do to stop this happening or even help to stop me receiving the damn chinese stuff in the first place. The emails on the laptop also get repeated after I have deleted them.

My explanation is probably as clear as mud but I do hope someone can help me fathom it out.

Thank you - Linda

Open up both computers and compare how preference in mail is set up. I have two MacBooks if I have a problem with mail, I compare the set ups in both computers and look for the differences. After that I'd call you'r email provider.

Linda,

You might go to the 'Mailbox' tab at the top of your mail window, scroll down to 'Erase Deleted Items' and then choose which mailbox(es) you want to erase, and then do so. ***** This is not reversible - once you click to do so you cannot get them back! ***** It is like a permanent deletion of your chosen emails. Hopefully this may take care of your dilemma.

Calling Apple, as mentioned previously, is also a great idea, for sure. They are usually quite helpful indeed.

I would change the way I do things. I use a MacBook and when reviewing email on it, I only use my email providers web mail app, so as not to download anything onto my laptop (I want all of my email that I do download on one machine).

Also within you providers webmail app their may be a filter than can be set up.

When you call Apple, have your system serial number handy. If they are out of warranty, it will cost you 20.00. It's worth it. Good luck.

1. When comparing settings, also compare System Preferences > Language & Region settings.
2. To delete these emails, find something in common with them (e.g. "from", subject, something in the body, etc.). Then do a Search using that common item. Then, check the "All" mailbox for found emails. Assuming you get some, select all of them and Delete.

You can also go into yopur email preferences and set a rule which will automatically move such messages to your junk folder. Just set the rule to move such items when the "To:" field contains certain things. Ju=ust copy the "To." field of these emails or better, something cxommonly found in that field in these cases and set your rule.

I'm guessing someone has gotten access to your MacBook Pro and is rerouting your mail through their proxy server. Go to Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts and click on your account ID in the left panel. Compare the server names on your MacBook Pro with the server names on your desktop. If they're different, edit them on the MacBook Pro to be the same. It's easy enough to get rid of the junk mail (click on Sender or Subject to re-order your messages so that the Chinese messages are together), shift-click to select a batch of them and hit Delete. But the thing is to avoid getting them in the first place.

If you call the Apple store near you to make an appt. for their "Genius Bar", you could bring in your iMac and Mac Pro and one of their techies could fix it for free. If that is not possible then call Apple Care. My experience is that Apple Care is outstanding. They are very knowledgeable and patient. Don't do anything to your computer that you can't reverse the action.

If you find a common or single email address part, you can set you email filter to automatically delete these and then you will never see them.
