What is the opion of my fellow Canonites to whether or not it is worth the extra $$ to choose the 7D instead of the 50D. I could probably stretch for the 7D, but don't know if the additional expense is necessary. I would appreciate your opinions.
What are you mostly going to be shooting with it?
I have both, and the 7D blows away the 50D for BIF (birds in flight) and other wildlife in terms of AF speed and accuracy, plus it produces a slightly larger image file size.
The same would be true for sports action.
For just kind of a little bit of everything camera...the 50D is still a fine camera.

Well, your $1000 price difference gets you:
1) Better AF system
2) Video
3) Dual Digic/4s
4) 18 vs 15 megapix
and some other stuff - plus about three years of development difference - the 50D came out 2008.
If I HAD the two grand, I'd think long and hard though, about maybe using it on a used 5D instead...

I have a 50D, have played around with my buds 7D --- I very much want a 7D. The features I'm liking on the 7D is it's improved auto focus and auto focus options. The video is okay, the slightly large image is okay.
The 50D's have been discontinued about a year so and I was lucky to find a used one for my wife.

I have a 50D that I'm thinking about selling..If you think you might be interested in it let me know...I'm not sure i'm going to sell it yet but thinking about upgrading to the 5D
I shoot with a 7D and love it. I cannot compare it to the 50D since I do not have that camera - but you will be quite happy with a 7D.

I just looked at the 7D & 60D and went for the 60D. Used a T1i prior. I do a Lot of Bird photo's and like the 5.5 fps and large file size as I offen have to crop down some. also like the rotating screen.
