Lightroom 4 export images corrupt

I just attempted to export images from lightroom 4 and the file is corrupt. I have tried all types of file types with no success. The photos will not open nor will the thumbnail views work. I cannot find any help on this subject on the internet yet. Has anyone ran into this issue? How did you correct it?

I found that my external WD drive is the issue. I have a MAC and tried to use the disk repair utility but it could not fix the issue. I looked on WD site for software but could only find it for Windows. Does anyone have any advice other than transferring my files to another hard drive and format the drive? I am in the process of transferring the files now but 125GB is going to take awhile.

I don't see any data to confirm its the drive. Why do you say so? Did you shut up LR. While exporting? Did you interrupt the process or did you turn off or disconnected the dtive without ejecting it properly ? These things. Could have damaged areas in the WD drive.

I exported the file to my desktop and everything worked. When I export to this drive the file will not open.

Do other files on your external drive open OK, docs, or spreadsheets, PDFs...whatever?

It sounds like you have stored your files on your C drive ... If you could export them, that is. Is this so?

Then you you may need a new external drive. If so, you might consider getting a second external and synchronizing software to mirror them. This is actually pretty easy.

I only use this external drive for my pictures.

The existing pictures on this drive opened just fine. All newly exported photos would not open.

I did use my external drive as a storage drive. I had to move them to another drive I use for my Time Machine. Then I formatted my external drive. Moved the photos back over and now it is working perfectly. The drive was manufactured in 2006. I think it is time to look for another drive.

Right. Glad you got things working. I have read that up to ten percent of drives fail the first year and things look pretty good after that until you get to year five or six -- then there is a significant failure rate. I'm replacing my newest drive after two years and I only turn my back up on once a week and it gets replaced after four years. My first drive failed so it got me started not trusting them for too long.
