I was thinking about purchasing this lighting kit from B&H. Seems like a decent price for what you get. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I just would consider a third light but you can go with two for a while using reflectors so...

Otherwise it seems extendable so that is good.
400w per head is ok, I would go for more (800/1000) but budget is always an issue.

If your use is light, you are in business.

Thanks Rongnongno. I'm basically just using it for family portraits

I would agree on the third light. If you buy an additional one later, more than likely you will not be able to fit it in that case. They make the cases to just about fit what they give you with some clever repacking. I got three and paid ledd but mine only have 1/2 and full power settings. the is bad. Just see what they get for an additional light so you know before hand. Good luck, enjoy, I love using my lights.

We have that exact kit as part of one of our 3 "portable studio" set ups. I have a 3rd light, Paul C Buff White Lightning 800 with a background modifier on it, and it fits nicely in that bag with everything else. The soft boxes are a pain to set up and tear down, I prefer my "umbrella Boxes" which I put in the case in leu of the square softboxes. Much quicker to set up and tear down. (and some prefer the round catchlights, I never thought of that until I had the question that I posted last week)

Anyway, it is an easy to use, easy to set up kit. Depending on your background, you would be just as well to try it as is, and add a 3rd light only if you can't get the backdrop to look like you want.

Enjoy
