Taken with a 50 mm f/1.8 lens at f/11, .6 seconds (2 second delay), ISO 200 with available light.

And it tasted delicious.

This is a well executed shot with good colour. Just a couple of observations about the arrangement, I would prefer to see the bread directly on the board without the plate and a slice taken off, and lying by the loaf, with the knife perhaps lying partially on the slice. I'm not sure about the blue tablecloth either.

Thanks for the comments. I had just taken the bread out of the oven. Also, time was a little short, or I'd have taken a shot with a slice gone. I used the plate because the bread and the board were very similar in color, and I wanted the bread to stand out. The blue tablecloth was clean, the red tablecloth under it wasn't so good. Next time, I'll take a series of shots. My wife, grandson and I have already "sampled" it. :)

I agree with Graham's assessment completely, but I would like to add that I just love that knife. It's perfect for this image.

That's why I wanted the knife to be completely visible, it's such a photogenic knife.

Next time, folks. Probably within a week. I get sticker shock when I go into the market, which is one reason I've turned to home-baked bread. I can remember shopping with my mother, and what she paid to feed a family of four for a week might cover the bottom of a shopping bag today. Might!

Perhaps with a neat bite taken from the slice......

That is the good thing about this forum, good points on how to compose this image better.

I want the bread, too, but not to take pictures of. Good job of conveying the attraction we all have to good fresh homemade bread. Nice sharp capture with nice crust-crunchy detail.

Like some others, there's some things I'd maybe want more or less of in the photo - more knife, less tablecloth, (maybe) no plate or a plate with a thin decorative line at the edge. You could take sample shots from straight above and also angled lower, to see which ones are most appealing to you. A shot angled lower, in monochrome, with lots of contrast and shadow might be interesting too. It might also be interesting to add another item or two to give a sense of size to the loaf. It is hard to tell whether it is large or small, as the knife/cutting board/plate could all be any size too. But all my rambling aside, it is a well captured photo that gets its message across.

Given the rules of this forum, it is clear to me that a suggestion to enrich the composition by the addition of a nice piece of cheese is most appropriate. (Does it really have to be English cheese?) However, when we start talking about adding wine, that might force us over into the post processing forum. After all, wine would change the this from a breakfast image to a lunch image. Where are the moderators when we need them?

In fact, I don't know that this image really needs either cheese or wine. If I wasn't such a stickler for rules I might suggest a little blob of red preserves to add a dramatic point of color. But that would be remaking the image and I would never, never make such a suggestion here.

By the way, I like the photograph.
