We saw the leaf cutter ants in CR last November. Fascinating creatures. They were in a column at least a kilometre long heading one way with the leaf pieces to the nest and back to the tree. They will chew the leaf pieces in the nest and build a pile of feces. Then on top of the pile they grow a kind of mold that is used for food.
