I (even though I am a Christian) find that to be hillarious! It also makes a point to me: We mortals don't necessarilly (sp?) know the ins and outs of God's plan...

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was not meant as an anti-Christian or anti-religious remark. It was meant to make the point that you obviously picked up on.

Harvey...If you read Acts 28, you'll notice that the Maltese were def. impressed that something serious (including death) did not happen to Paul. It got their attention.

Having attended seminary, Harvey, I know that the New Testament documents are early, trace back to original sources and that the evidence points towards not only towards their authenticity but their truthfulness.

Steve: Please don't think that I am in any way belittling your beliefs. That is seriously not my intention. But when you say you have attended seminary, all that means is you have been instructed in religion. It's the same as some-one saying they went to art school so they know what makes a good painting. I will gladly hold up my hands and say you know a lot more about religion than I do. But I went to university and did an MSc, will you admit that I know a lot more about science than you do?

Yes, and I am more and more amazed at scientific discoveries.

I do think that the scientific community is loosing site of the scientific method. The biggest argument against religion has always been that you have to accept the existence of God as a matter of faith with no physical evidence. Today theoretical physics expects you to accept the existence of black holes, worm holes and dark matter under the same conditions. Physics is based on the paradigm of gravity and that seems to be breaking down as we look at smaller and larger things.

Welliem....I'm not a scientist, but as I learn more about dark matter, dark energy, and quantum physics, I think that people are making intellectual decisions based upon a science that knows maybe 20% of what's out there. Keep your minds open, folks, we're all gonna be surprised when we find out how things work.

A hundred years from now, we'll all be dead and it won't matter. Unless you're right. Are there cave-men in heaven? I know it was a cheap remark. Don't bother answering. :D

God has been present in every era of man's history. Why not?

This reminds me of the story about a devout Christian who went to the sea and just started swimming out. About half a mile out, the coast guard pulled up along side him to rescue him. He said "no God will protect me" and he kept on swimming. A little while later he drowned. When he got up to Heaven he said to God "Where were you? I thought you would protect me" and God replied "I sent out the coast guard. What more did you expect?"
Hahaha! Good one as usual.

Steve: here's a question for you. In the very early days of man-kind, we would have had a very limited language, things like ugg and kaa. How did dinosaurs get to have such long names? Again cheap shot and I'm just toying with you.

I think that 20% may be an over estimate. Look at something very simple like your hand. For thousands of years, we just took it for granted. Then we looked a bit closer and realised we have opposable thumbs and that makes us able to do things that animals that don't have opposable thumbs can't do. Then we looked closer and saw we have individual finger prints that make each one of us unique. Then we looked even closer and saw there was a molecular structure. Then even closer still and we saw an atomic structure. Then closer still and we got into the realms of quantum physics. Going the other way, we saw that the Earth revolves around the Sun. Then that the Sun is just one small part of the Milky Way. And then that the Milky Way is just one of many millions of galaxies. Einstein was the first person in modern history to suggest that there was a unified theory of everything, that may be what you call God, but if so it will have a scientific explanation.

[quote=magicray]Reality show snake-handling preacher dies -- of snakebite

[b](CNN)]/b] -- A Kentucky pastor who starred in a reality show about snake-handling in church has died -- of a snakebite.
Jamie Coots died Saturday evening after refusing to be treated, Middleborough police said.
On "Snake Salvation," the ardent Pentecostal believer said that he believed that a passage in the Bible suggests poisonous snakebites will not harm believers as long as they are anointed by God. The practice is illegal in most states, but still goes on, primarily in the rural South.
Coots was a third-generation "serpent handler" and aspired to one day pass the practice and his church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, on to his adult son, Little Cody.

I've either seen this guy or others do this but like has been said...it's dumb practice based on misunderstanding a bible verse that's not really even IN the bible... :(

He's lucky that he's lived this long while doing this.

If there is a god, I tend to think there's not but that is open to debate, but if there is, he gave us the good sense not to feck about with poisonous snakes.
