Yesterday I called in at the Hertz car rental office in Stellenbosch to enquire about a car rental. As I walked in there was a very gregarious American guy from Chicago returning a car. He wanted to shake the hand of all the staff exclaiming that this was the best rental outlet he had ever used anywhere in the Wirld and there was clearly nothing they could not do for their customers. I had to wait while he went on and on. He even began to tell me how good they were. Eventually there was a lull in his praise and a representative asked if he could help me. I told him I wanted a four wheel drive vehicle for a trip to Namibia. He apologised and said the company could not provide such a vehicle for this purpose. Stunned silence from the American. I just looked at him and walked out. Thank goodness for Avis who do have such vehicles.
That would make a great commercial for Avis
I've been a Hertz customer for 30 plus years and rent 12-15 per year both domestically and international. And about once a year I'll try one of their competitors and I am always disappointed. For me Hertz is the most consistent across the board with excellent service, clean cars, good choices, and great staff.
You sound just like the bloke in the rental shop Zophman. However despite all your exhortations, Hertz totally failed to help me and Avis did. Anyway lighten up a bit, this was a fun story about the juxtaposition of a bloke over-singing the praises of an outfit, only to have them dashed by what happened next. It was not a piece about the clinical evaluation of two rental companies. However, since you raise it, I was in Georgia recently and the car that Hertz rented me at Atlanta airport turned out to be the biggest piece of junk imaginable and I had to fight desperately to get a refund and compensation for my damaged golf bag, torn by sharp edges of metal inside the trunk.
Just putting in my two cents. I try to spend my money where I get the best value. Sounds like you have had a run of back luck. Try renting from Enterprise next time.
I've been renting cars for over 35 years and the best experiences have been with Alamo first and Hertz secondly. Hertz is always more expensive

You guys need to take a look at Enterprise, if you haven't already, as we have had good experiences with them at low cost.
