Cool shots. You're fortunate to have those guys in abundance. I've only seen one "hoodie" and two woodducks but then I haven't studied the optimal time to be looking for them either so it could be they're plentiful here and I am just unaware. I got a shot of a hoodie male with a small trout in his beak but it was too far away to be useful. Perhaps later... Thanks for sharing your bounty with us.

Rachel, these were shot with my 40D and 100-400L lens. They were shot a couple of years ago at a park near where i used to live. these were shot at 400mm, 1/500 and 1/640, at f/11.

and yes, Tracey, that's the spot i was telling you about earlier... it's a county park, along the shore of Lake Washington, and it's also a wetland wildlife refuge, so a lot of the birds and waterfowl come in quite close.
