The camera I was looking at is the Canon sx50. I was informed you could do this with an adaptor. Thank you harold Ross I do appreciate it.

No more questions, but I thank you all.

You can Google "Lens Mate" and get everything you need. Quality stuff -- not too expensive.

I believe some bridge cameras can take screw in filters from comments I have seen on these pages. I've never seen one with a lens hood, but then again, I've never looked. If you could give us an idea as to what camera you are interested in, or at least narrow it down to 2 or 3 it would be a big help.

My wife uses a Pana Lumix DMC FZ28 which is supplied with a flower petal hood and accepts screw-in 46mm filters.

I have fujifilm hs50exr bridge camera and it came with a lens hood and uses 58mm lens attachments. It really has some good functions too. RAW format, 24-1000 mm lens and many more great camera for around 500 dollars.

If it accepts a screw in filter you can find a rubber lens hood that fits.
Because of the wide angle of most of them you might consider a step-up ring and a larger diameter lens hood.

When purchasing lens hoods, you should get the lens hood made for the particular lens.

The Canon made lens hood for the SX50 is designed for the lens range for the SX50. There are generic lens hoods that are virtually identical to the Canon lens hood. Look on eBay for Canon LH-DC60 and you will find the genuine Canon version and a number of third party versions.

I would agree with that. many lenses have the same filter thread but if you stick a lens hood designed for a wide angle onto a telephoto lens it will do no good at all And the other way round it will cause vignetting.
