Nice, makes me proud. I grew up in Greenpoint Brooklyn in the 50, 60, 70, 80's. This was a walk down memory lane.
People ask me (I travel) what it was like growing up in Brooklyn. I tell them, Did you see the first 15 minutes of Gangs of NY? It was the same, except our streets were paved.
Thanks for this.

Excellent vid! I remember in the early grades in Raleigh NC the street was aswarm with kids, sand lot baseball up the street, bicycle races, skinned knees, etc. You went home, got comforted and bandaged, then back into the fray.
But...let's not forget polio. That spectre haunted my generation's parents, with good reason. And in Raleigh there wasn't a black or brown face to be seen on my street, or at the city funded swimming pool.
So. The past is always viewed through lenses which filter out much that was less than ideal. I do feel, though, that kids nowadays aren't allowed to be kids enough. What's with "play dates?" Why not make your own friends? Waaay too much TV and video game time, too little outdoor activity and just "hangin' out."
Oh, BTW, I was born in '43. Guess that makes me an Old Fart. So be it. Grump, grump.

I was born in 1930, we didnt even have telivison. We made up our own games. Didnt wear shoes all summer. It was fun on the party line phone. If you picked up the phone someone was always on it. Most our neibors didnt even have a phone. They would ask it they could use ours to call the DR.
