Took these this morning. It is the first time I got this lens to work for me. It is a 70-300mm Tamron. Any sugestions for making these better is greatly appreciated. I am trying to learn and love this site for all the info and great shots from everyone.

Great pictures! The first one is exceptional showing the sea foam and the clarity of the bird.

Just curious; what has been going on with the lens prior to today?

Thanks. That came out so clear I was able to crop it down to just the head with same clarity. Appreciate your feed back.

I could not get it to focus. I think the switch from AF to Manual was stuck somewhere in the middle. When all esle fails use a screw driver.

These are pretty well done but could be better in some ways. The first really is a nicely composed shot but could use a little more space behind the tail (I know this isn't always easy with animal shots) and could be just a little sharper on it's head. The second might have better composition with the subject a little less centered. It is totally centered from top to bottom and maybe could also benefit from a SLIGHT decrease of water behind it. It is also overexposed on the white portions of the bird. This can be avoided by setting your lighting on the lightest part of the bird. I love the pose on this one but a little sharpening on the bird might be helpful. The third is so nicely composed and the wings are beautifully positioned. For me, it doesn't work due to the lack of a head. Keep it up...you obviously have some beautiful scenery in your area and a good eye for interesting subjects.

the first one is a cracking shot Greg! you did just the right thing with having the bird on the left of the shot leaving a space in front of the direction. The second needs the brightness reducing in my opinion as the bird is over exposed but any photo programme can do this.

The third is a bit of a mass of wings so doesn't do it for me as I agree it needs the head but you should be proud of the first. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your feed back. On number 1. I'll go back to the original and recrop and see how it comes out. I'll try and work on 2 I'll see what I can do. Number 3 is not the best but when you see something move you have to react. I added only because I really like it.I don't like the backdrop, but I think the Gull is in the middle of a great ballet movement. Thanks again for your feed back all is appreciated. It helps us get better.

Greg, love your shots. The 2nd one, I believe may have needed a faster shutter speed. I love the shot but I think it is out of focus for that reason.

Thanks. The shutter speed was 1/2000. It's hard sometimes to know what will work when eveything is moving and you only have one chance. Appreciate youir feed back. Would a polarized filter tone down the white? I only have a uv filter for this lens.

Boy that should have stopped the action. I don't know much about polarized filters. I've used them, but mostly don't. Sometimes on the beach I do get a better quality if there is a lot of white.
