My Nikon 70-200 f2.8 arrived and I am stuck trying to figure out how to mount the lens to my tripod. I searched youtube, UHH and I cannot find the answer which should be simple. The manual is no help.

Does your tripod head have a quick release plate which you have already attached to your D7100? You will want to get a second plate to attach to the lens foot, but for now, you'll have to take the plate off the camera and attach it to the lens.

There's a tripod collar on that lens, there's a screwhole in it and your quick release plate fastens to that.
Your camera itself gets no support unless you use a bracket of some sort.

I am a total dumb butt. I knew there was a simple answer but I never thought about the plate on the camera. I feel stupid and I appreciate your considerate and kind reply. I was so excited about my lens that my brain went south. Thank you again.

Pine, it's usually pretty self-explanatory, so I assume there is something besides the obvious.
Do the threads not match up?
Does the lens have a collar?
Is the tripod, legs only?
Is the lens actually a f.28 and is too heavy to pick up

No, I just had brain lock on the quick release on the camera. It took me only a few seconds once my mistake was pointed out.Yes, it is heavy but I'm happy. I snapped off a couple of shots outside and inside and it is sharp. It makes my 18-200 seem like a toy. I really appreciate the UHH members - even the grumpy ones. This site is more fun than Facebook and the discussions are great. Thanks again.

Sometimes, no. I'll open the topic, start to comment, get distracted, then come back and finish my comment. If I forget to refresh, I don't see the new posts.

In the words of Forrest Gump. There's another SS here?
Cholly, you think it takes Anand a long time to get a reply out, even if it's only one line long, I have to look up every word to make sure the spelling is correct, even the I's. Then I have to get my 3rd grade English book out to make sure the periods are on the right end of the sentence! And after all that, sometimes need a potty break, before I proof read the sentence. Not to mention that the closest I ever came to being either a rocket scientist or an astronaut was watching the Apollo launches on a little round TV.
And all that, on an iPhone.
Cholly, I hope you shoot only keepers. ;-)

you'd better make sure it a good model, the one I had , had all the features I wanted. the leg locks however were made of cheap plastic and all of them cracked and were useless.
