We have a pair of Bald Eagles that hang around this part of Anchorage every year (at least for the past six years). The sun was out this morning so I went looking for them. They were both in the top of a Black Spruce tree. One took off before I could get the tripod and camera set up. The second let me take a few shots before heading after its mate. I was happy they left ...it was 1F out and I forgot to pack my gloves.

Thank you Frenchy, I probably don't enough attention to the eagles. They always seem to be around.

The shots were taken with a Canon 5D ii and a Canon 500 mm lens with a 1.4 extender for an effective 700 mm reach.

Thanks Rlaugh. I am sitting here now debating on where or not to go shoot some dog sled racing. The unlimited sprints start in about 30 minutes ...and it has warmed up to 11F now so maybe I'll go ...or veg out and watch the Olympics.

Gorgeous. You can almost feel the texture of the feathers.

It is ...on a nice day Rlaugh. Having grown up here and spending about half of my working life here, I have plenty of shots of dogs, sleds, mushers and fans. I really want to take my new 500 mm lens out for some compressed shots. But I think I will wait a couple of more weeks until I get a day in the mid=20's. By the time I lug the camera, tripod and lenes in to a good spot, they would be cold and cranky today. Cold is okay if the lens and camera can fit inside my coat ...not so much when they can't. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Bear.

Thanks for looking Heirloom. They do look rather soft. I'm not sure I would want to get close enough to a wild one to find out though! Glad to see you are enjoying your snow. My sister is in Coos Bay and not happy that they missed out.

Thanks RE but I actually went on a drive! Walking around this time of year is not something I care to do at my age.
