Any suggestions on reference manuals for the D7100? I won it in a raffle! My experience is that the manufacturers manuals are usually just too technical for me.
Read through the manual regardless. Finding feature from page on camera. PLAY
Then tomorrow PLAY some more with what you've learned.
Then come back to UHH with specific questions or click on 'search' for your question first. If no simple answer than 'ask us' for an answer.
I love my D7000 but only after 4-5 months of playing and finding out what it can really do.

Thanks sarge69. I always read the included manuals but they sometimes leave a bit to be desired in explaining some functions to the "less technically savy" folks such as I.

the manual leaves a bit to be desired but read it anyway. That sentence you skipped over because it seemed self-evident or of no interest will come back to bite you later!
I have purchased David Busch's manuals on Amazon.com for every Nikon camera I have ever bought. They are EXCELLANT !!
I highly recommend his style of teaching you the camera as well as some basic photography.....
Yes as GC stated. Get the field guide on Amazon.

Yes, David Busch's D7100 is a good book. There are some good Youtube clips as well. I also downloaded Michael the Mavern's video. I've also had $450.00 worth of private tutoring. It's a great dslr. I also watch UHH daily. Have fun.
Thanks for the recommendations folks. Will take a look at the David Bush book.

I bought a book called 'Nikon D7100 for Dummies' on ebay for around $27. It is an excellent non-technical book for a beginner, but is also a wealth of information for experienced shooters. I recommend it. :-)

Check out Matt Granger, thatnikonguy.com and on youtube. He goes through all the settings in one video.
Go to the Ken Rockwell site. He should have a tutorial on your camera. I did on my D90 and learned more than from the instruction manual - the dummie book and another book. He goes through all the settings on the manual side of the camera and tells you what he uses and why and what you may want to do. Good luck with your new camera. - Dave
Thanks again for all the suggestions! Much appreciated.
Read the manual with camera in hand!
Digital film is cheap. Crank the ISO up to 3200, sit in your easy chair and shoot, shoot, shoot! (The D7100 permits you to delete every picture you took on a selected date with a single click of a button.)
Start a note file on your tablet. "I didn't know that!" Or "Ahaa!"
Issue an edict: Don't interrupt me unless your hair is on fire!
