Birds in my back yard - 5

Last year we fed over three hundred pounds of black sunflower, cracked sunflower and thistle seed. So far this year we have used less that fifty pounds. While the East Coast has had unusually cold weather, snow and freezing rain, we have been unusually warm with very little precipitation ...in fact, dry enough for the forest service to issue a high fire warning for much of South Central Alaska. I suspect the warm weather has a lot to do with the scarcity of birds in our back yard this year. Here are a couple of Black Capped Chickadees from last weekend.

erbiv, Both of your Chickadees are as good as anything I've seen in a very long time! Print'm and hang'm. They'd look great in a vertical double frame. ..... Coot

Wonderful shots, erbiv.
Since we have had extremely frigid weather, ( below 0*F. with windchills down to 40 below 0), my bird population has exploded here in Southwestern Pennsylvania, I even been visited by E. Towhee and Am. Tree Sparrow which is unusual. We have also had 7 inches of snow in one evening.
In Pittsburgh, on the Allegheny River, there are hundreds of Gulls, some from as far away as the Arctic.

Could this possibly be a Thayers Gull from Arctic? :?:

Thank you very much for the comment Coot. They are my wife's favorite bird and getting a good shot has been a passion for several years now. They are getting better I think, but I can always find something to try and avoid the next time. I may hang them ...more likely will use one or both to make a card then next time I need one, like next Friday for Valentine's Day.

Thanks for looking and the comment A.J. Given the quality of the shot you posted I am not positive, but from Stokes and a quick online search I would guess that it is a first searson Iceland gull. They have relatively short beaks that are mostly black and a creamy buff colored during the first winter. Here is one link. http://birds.audubon.org/birds/iceland-gull

Thanks James! The "frost" is the result of ice fog not to be confused with a freezing fog. Ice fog occurs at very cold temperatures and is really a fog of suspended ice crystals rather than water droplets in normal and freezing fogs. It does turn the trees beautiful for a short time when it occurs.

Thank you very much Goldwinger. Never as good as I would like, but then nothing in life is I suppose.
