Has anyone had any experience using the Tamron SP AF 2X Teleconverter with a Nikon AF-S 70-300mm 4.5 G VR? Am considering a purchase and wonder if it's worth while, as far as teleconverters go. Thanks in advance.

Not sure if it will work on that lens (Nikon's own TC's won't)... But, a 2X loses 2 stops of light... Your lens may not auto focus properly unless you have lots of light...You might look at a 1.4X converter instead...I assume you want this for birds in flight et al ?....

For me, personally, any teleconverter is a waste of money.

You might also look at the 2X Kenko Pro 7 element converter- It works with my 18-300 nikon DX in bright light with auto, manually in lower light. Also works with all Nikon "D" lenses.

The problem I've had with teleconverters is that mine, a Kenco, defeats the superior quality of my Canon USM L lens. In other words, every time I use it I get "soft focus" results...that's a kind of code for blurry. Maybe a Canon teleconverter would be better but I can't afford the gamble. I just take my chances with my "litle" 70-200 non-IS "L". It's sharp and I can blow stuff up with Photoshop.
