I am sitting here in the dark, reading the forum and I look over and my cats face is illuminated by the computer and its quite a beautiful sight. How would I capture this image with my camera with such low light? thanks in advance for the advice. I would really like to give this a try.

Tripod,bulb setting, trial and error.
when it is daytime cover a window with a diffusion material, a white sheet should work. set your cat near the window, turn off all interior lights. expose for the window light.
If you like the color of the light coming from your monitor try to find out the color temperature of the monitor, set your camera's color temperature for that, and take a picture.
Or you could adjust the color temperature slider in your editing program.
good luck
Thanks all , I tried it last night as soon as I pulled my camera out my catgot up.
Yes,
It is very important to glue the cat to the desk. Some people use nails but the blood will ruin your pictures.

You will be amazed at what your camera sensor actually picks up in low light that then can be post processed into a good photo. I would challenge you to take the shot and play with it in you favorite PP software. I tried this a couple of months ago just as an experiment and I was amazed at the detail and clarity I was able to pull out of the file. I attached what the end result looks like. The original file was completely black with the exception of the two spots of light. I had no idea the ducks were in the water swimming around until after I PP this.
Pond at night after post processing in LR
What a beautiful shot! In the site viewbug they are running a contest right now called purple. This would be a great submission to that contest!

Great shot. Early on one of my best shots looked totally black until I lightened it up in PP. It is amazing what the sensors pick up that we can't see.

You need a really fast lens, unless you can get the cat to stand perfectly still, and a tripod. My last resort is ISO, as the shots are usually too noisy to use. And by the time you de-noise, the cat will look like rubber. ;-)
