Camera bag, backpack, or some other bag to transport gear?

I'm curious as to how we all carry, move around, and transport our cameras, lenses, flashes, storage cards, filters, batteries, etc. I use a Filson field duffel, small, with three partitions and two external pockets. It's not padded, so I'm considering something else but don't know what. Bag (if so, what kind) or backpack (which I'm NOT partial to)?

So true. Either it will be too big, or too small. I wound up with 4 before I got what I think I need. Now I need one more for travel abroad.

I just bought the Lowepro Proroller x200 last week, I thought I'd have all kinds of room, but once again, I was wrong. I got the largest carry on I could get and it's already jam packed full.

Hi Lukan,

I recently purchased a Tamrac sling style (one strap over neck and shoulder) camera bag. You can wear it in front for easy access or slide it to the back. It holds my Olympus camera, three lenses, batteries, SD cards, a couple of filters....only a tiny flash would fit in with all these other things. I weighed the bag with all these things in it and it weighed 5 pounds. I am buying collapsible rubber lens hoods so I can pack them in too because the hard ones don't fit in my model of sling bag but Tamrac also makes larger models. Sling bags work better for me because they don't bother my back.
You can see the Tamrac model I have here http://www.amazon.com/Tamrac-Velocity-Compact-Sling-Pack/dp/B00BPZD5L0/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1391654797&sr=8-9&keywords=tamrac+sling+camera+bag but there are lots of other sizes and shapes.

Lukan, This is worse than asking about cameras.
I went through the shoulder bag, sling, duffle and now use only backpacks.
I have a small LowPro that is good sometimes for short excursions. I think it's a Pro-runner 200AW. I have a Larger LowPro, Compu TrekkerAW, but its to big for everyday. So My pack 90% of the time is a $39.99 Canon deluxe 200eg. I like it better than my $300 LowPro. It's a great little pack and I carry it up to 16 hours a day with about 20lbs in it.
But it says Canon on it. Lots of really expensive packs out there that don't work as well.
For extended heavy loads, I gave up on anything that is not equally balanced on both shoulders, as are bags and slings. Good luck with this project. ;-)

I like this idea, but as I clicked onto the site and perused other options, I saw the 7Z, which might just be exactly perfect. I like the slightly larger bag because I tend to overpack for anywhere I go.

SharpShooter, I like this backpack better than any other I've seen! I love the price and its capacity. Between this suggestion and Mossy's, I think I'll have my carry needs "bagged". Thanks, I think I'll get both!

I am also looking for a backpack as well. Is your LowPro a Trekker 300? I am going back and forth between a Trekker 300 or a 400. What help can you you give me on this?

Add to that the ability to carry less and less as the number of years in my age gets to be more and more...
I found the almost perfect solution for me:
All my gear is in one place at home, camera bodies, kit lenses, lenses acquired later on, filters, adapters, batteries and chargers, etc.
Recently, I bought a fairly small messenger bag - the shoulderstrap goes over my right shoulder while the bag hangs on the left, which is the most comfortable postition for me.
Before I go on any shoot, whether it be a walk in the park, a visit with the grandkids, or a 3-week vacation, I try to figure out what I would need/can't do without on that shoot.
Stuff like camera, lenses (usually, but not always, limited to two), lens pen, filters, pen and notebook, flash, go into that messenger bag. For the longer trip, stuff I think I will need but do not need to have with me "in the field", like battery chargers (camera battery, flash batteries), extra lenses, second flash, etc., goes into a second bag. It doesn't have to be comfortable, as it stays in the car, or in the bedroom (when we visit with our son).
It has worked well for me, but I really have to be aware of where we're going and what I'm likely to take photos of.
Oh, and the messenger bag (somewhat squarish, plain bag) doesn't at first sight yell "camera inside". There is a LowePro logo on the flap, but I'll be buying a Canadian flag sew-on patch to cover that up.

Right! Or, it will be too big, and you'll have to buy smaller bags.

I have everything from small to large. It all depends on what I want to carry. I have to make sure to empty the bag completely, or I'll have trouble finding something two weeks later.
