Does anyone use a shutter release cord (any brand body) and prefer it over a wireless remote ? and why?

Thanks,

Jeffrey

I use the cable when I need to stand behind the camera. My wireless unit uses IR and when I'm behind the camera it cant see the sensor.

I have used both: I have Sofortbilt on my Macbook, but I use wireless (or self timer) more because it's quicker to set up.

I have both, but I prefer the cord more because I all my drive modes available. The wireless is a drive mode so it like shooting in auto, it is not as flexible as the cord.

I got both for Christmas! Can't wait to try them out. I see some ridiculous self-portraits in my future!

Does that mean that you can shoot wireless from the back of the camera? Make and model of the camera please.
On my Canon 60D the IR sensor is on the front of the camera, in the grip, and needs to be fired in minimum 2sec delay drive mode. OK for pictures that you want to be included in but little else.
The wired Canon RS60-E3 on a 2ft cord has a shutter release button just like the camera letting you focus, take the shut, or lock the button in bulb mode. Great for use on a tripod to prevent camera shake and odd ball positions.

Thus both have their unique uses but the wireless would be so much better if there was a sensor on the back of the camera as well as the front.

BTW, I do not understand how you take a bird shot when away from the camera.

BTW2: This is where the swivel screen comes in great. You turn the LCD screen around or in any position help you frame, focus or do what you do with an LCD, or is it LED screen. I will never buy a camera again that has a fixed screen so FF has to wait untill Canon includes the swivel.

I use a wireless as it works up to 500 feet away and at any angle.

Can also stand in front of the camera , hand in pocket , and the shutter will fire, it doesn't need to "see", as IR does.

IR is wireless.
What type of wireless do you use? Please mention hardware, brandname model etc. Can you also stand back of the camera?

I have been looking for one also and finally decided to use the self timer. It does the same thing and doesn't require a financial investment in further equipment.

true, however, the wireless will also allow continuos shooting , works with AEB, etc.

Self timers have value, just depends on what one is doing and pick the tool for the results needed.
