Rainy and cold out. Let's return to warmer times. This is a Martial Eagle in a tree in the Okavango Delta. It had just caught a guinea fowl and flown up to the crook about 15' above ground level. In my sequence of shots, I have some with plucked feathers in the air, but the feathers are blurred.

The Martial is the largest eagle in Africa and rates pretty close to our North American bald eagles for beauty (to me.)

Wonderful shot Dave! I will be going to Kruger National Park in South Africa in May. I hope to get some photos of martial eagles on that trip.

Cliff - you are right. It is "Martial". I even googled to check spelling before posting, and there are links that go to "marshall" eagles. Aaaargh! Thanks for the catch, and the nice compliment.

We did six drives in the private reserves at Kruger and did not see a martial there. We saw a few in Botswana and got really lucky with this one.

Thank you, PhotoDiva. The immature ones are not so attractive, but then immature bald eagles are not either.
