Is this also useful for portrait photography?

Try it and see. That's the beauty of digital. What are it's f/stop limits? How is it in low light? 60mm is towards the low end of most portrait lens focal lengths but is still in the range.

What camera you shooting with? If it is full frame it will be kind of short. If it is DX. It will be fairly decent. Most say 85 is good for portraits. For micro it is a great lens, you have to get pretty close to your subject. If you are chasing bugs around it is to short. The longer lenses are better for micro. Like the 105 or the 200.The 105 makes a real good lens for portraits too. The 60 will give good back ground blur.

I just received this lens yesterday but haven't used it yet. It had very good ratings for both macro and portraiture use. It is also very fast (f/2). If you buy it before the end of tomorrow, you will receive a $100 rebate from Tamron.

Thanks. I looked at a couple of sites and B&H had the lense for $472.95 and with the $100 rebate, $372.95. Timing was great to save the hundred bucks. Thanks again.

How can you get a new toy and not play? :) It doesn't need batteries!

Just got mine. The $100 rebate made it a killer deal. I'm loving this lens. I shoot the Canon T3i so it's awesome for portraits. It is also my first true macro and I am very pleased.
