Here's a surprise close up with telephoto set on my camera-Canon power shot SX 30 IS

I have the exact camera you have and I don't know what you mean by telephoto set. Is there a setting I have missed? Or are you zooming?

didn't realize myself that there is a difference...dah. Asked Bill-digital zoom uses only some of of the pixels that tele captures..Didn't even know that! So,I asked if that's why sometimes those pix. aren't as clear?Dah,again. So I did a study-went back to the same place(B.R.) and turned off the digital to compare pix. Had NO idea I could do that ! First two are no digital-tele only. last one was one I posted before.
I don't see too much difference...Do You? Perhaps the tele ones are not as close???

there is a difference from Optical zoom and Digital zoom I was always told never to use Digital but to use the Optical instead

Sorry, the milkweed was along the roadside, so I did NOT collect any of the seeds. They will have re-seeded themselves, so will have to check that spot again this summer to see if they are still there. As for the monarchs, I have sedum in the backyard and a couple years ago they were covered by the monarchs. Last year did not see that phenomenon. Thanks for your comment!
Monarch butterflies will nectar on nearly any flower, but will lay their eggs only on milkweed leaves. Milkweed is the host plant for both Monarch & Queen caterpillars.

Last of the Paper Whites! The fragrance is too strong for me! I don't think it smells good either! They are going to make "the Trip". Was fun to watch them bloom though.

Paper Whites in full bloom!

Played with water on CD today too!

"Digital zoom" means cropping within the camera. Less pixels are used, so images have less resolution. Using a tele-photo or 'zoom' lens magnifies the image before the light strikes the sensor, requiring more light for proper exposure, but uses all of the sensor pixels, resulting in preserved resolution.

Thank you Nikonian72, the FAQ's were extremely helpful to this old mind. I had a number of questions to ask but you answered them all. I was especially curious about all the references here and other place to "Macro Lenses" of different focal lengths. Now I know. Good stuff :!:
