Went on a field trip to the rodeo and took along my 25 year old Minolta 75-300mm zoom, which I haven't used in a number of years. The photos were taken handheld or resting on the fence; no mono or tripod. Post processing was done in Lightroom. I think the old lens held up well, but would like to hear from fellow hoggers. Pick away...all comments are appreciated.
They look excellent to me.
Your actions shots are supperb. Great focus and stop action.
I can't understand why these riders do not where head protection. The guy coming out of the saddle in your top picture looks like he is heading down on his noggin.
Good action. The last one is, not that I'm an expert, what I would consider a classic rodeo shot. I love it. Nice set.

What camera were you using...?
The shots are great...
I was a Minolta user for years when shooting film and have that lens as well...it was very good and I still use it on my wife's Konica-Minolta 5D.
Still have my Minolta 303si...was going to sell it but no-one wants them anymore or only want's to pay peanuts so I kept it...

If you look closely, the rider with the red chaps has a neck support on. I noticed several of the riders had them. I suspect they reduce whiplash severity, but clearly don't do anything for concussions.
BTW, the guy in the red chaps hung on and completed his ride!!!!!

The camera is an A850. I've been tempted to trade in for an SLT99 and now an A7, but I can't convince myself that I would be able to notice an improvement. The only aspect of this camera that takes a back seat to the newer models (at least to me) is the high ISO performance. I rarely go beyond ISO 800. However, post processing noise reduction continues to improve and provide better results at higher ISOs.

Earnhardt Sr. "3" fought head restraint, seat harness NASCAR racing for years. Unfortunately, he never got to wear one.

Nice clean shots on a tough subject. Well done.
Oh, and tell that horse to quit jumping around like that, someone could fall off and hurt themselves. Maybe we could legislate a requirement for 20 layers of bubblewrap.
