We had a storm yesterday and after I shoveled I left the shovel out overnight leaning against the house. The icicles grew vertically!!

Those are stalagmites! They have them in caves, usually made of stone from mineral deposits from water dripping from the ceiling. Must have been water dripping from the roof, freezing as it hit the shovel.
