I couldn't upload last night, but hopefully I have fixed my problem, so will try again.
I was out taking a lot of pictures yesterday with my sx 50 working on getting the sharpest images possible in camera. The only things to practice on were the ducks on the pond behind our condo. So took a lot at different settings.
This was taken using Tv mode with iso set at 1000 (a first for me) f7.1 and ss 1/2000
any comments and critique welcome.

Very nice and colorful...and yep, they're all having a refreshing drink. But be warned...high ISO can lead to a little noise. Not always, it depends on the lighting. It will creep in as lighting situations get dimmer. With slow moving ducks like these, you probably could have backed it down a little and still had fairly high shutter speeds. Have fun learning and practicing...

Wow, what a wonderful catch! You could plan all year for such and never achieve it.

Thanks, James. I appreciate your advice and comments.
I only did very minimal exposure pp on it. I was surprised there wasn't a lot more noise. It is fun learning what I can do with this camera. Looking forward to something a little more interesting than our mallard group.

Thanks, erbiv, I appreciate your taking the time to look and comment.

My goal for this year is learn how to best use my sx50, and shoot something every day. Fortunately, our ducks are in the pond behind our condo most days. So they are good practice material.

Excellent shot, with a well-composed final image. The noise smoothed things out a bit too much, gave it almost a painterly effect if you look closely at the enlarged image. Not a bad thing, as I like that and intentionally do it to all my photos, but if you're going for the sharpest image possible, maybe cutting back on the high ISO would help, or you might also check for any in-camera noise reduction that might be turned on.

Thank you rlaugh. I am working on it. Some days I get really frustrated with myself when I don't get the shot I intended. That really is my ultimate goal...to get the shot I am trying for at least most of the time.

Thank you Treepusher, I appreciate your comments and suggestions on how to improve. I checked my setting and the noise reduction is set to standard. I think that is the default setting.
I don't like to play much with pp. So my goal right now is to get the best possible shots in camera so I only need to tweak a few things if needed. I didn't do any sharpening/clarity adjustments in this one.
Thank you again for taking the time to look, advise and encourage a novice photographer.
