I saw this flash attachment in the current issue of Shutterbug and wondered if anyone had any experience with it:

Rogue Safari DSLR Pop-up Flash Booster

thanks.

There was a humorous discussion about this a few weeks ago. Big and impressive looking, but I don't think anyone posted about personal experience with it. Clever idea, though.

There are 16 reviews on Amazon where people do have personal experience...that's always my first choice to see what the general consensus is on a product. It makes it easy to spot trends...

Right. I always read the lowest ratings first. Some people are just stupid and can't figure how to get the product out of the box, so they give it one star. Some rate it lower because the shipping box was damaged in the mail.

Most times, though, people make intelligent comments about an item's shortcomings. If those shortcomings are significant to me, I avoid it. Usually, people are smart enough to make good comments. I like to think that I am one of those who offer legitimate reviews.

Good point. I usually look at Amazon first, for some reason I didn't this time. Still deciding.....

Amazon is good about returns. If it's not what you want, return it.

What exactly is a "flash booster?" I need to be enlightened. 8-)

See the link above your post.
The attachment focuses the light from your flash, narrowing and concentrating it for better range when using longer focal lengths.
It's almost guaranteed to give you red eye if you shoot people.

I did go to that link. I just wanted to know what the "booster" meant. All I can tell from the site is that it must be a long range flash attachment. Interestingly, in the specs is stated that it works with crop sensor cameras. Does that mean it does NOT work with full frame cameras?

It concentrates the light using a fresnel lens, effectively giving you more power.
Don't know why it wouldn't work with FF cameras that have a pop-up flash.

O.k. Now I see how it is supposed to work: with pop-up flashers. All I could think of was how in the world would this fit over an external flash attachment, such as a Speedlite.

built a cardboard box with a speedlight in one end and a cheap Edmund 12" plastic fresnel in the other end.

It didn't defeat the inverse square laws of physics, but it sure did let my flash reach out a long way.
